A lot of us have seen proof of the old saying, “just wait, it will come back in style.” Our daughter, when in college, got us back into vinyl records and record players! Here’s a June 2014 article on this phenomenon, Vinyl: The Rebirth of Records.

If you’ve read my post on the Lane end table, you know we admire Lane Furniture and highly regard their design and quality of construction and materials. This Lane record cabinet has a flip top opening which is used for a small coffee table in her room before she discovered (literally) vinyl record albums.
By accident, we discovered another model that has a front door that pulls open for record storage, with internal compartments labeled for different types of albums, and a large top surface to put the record player on. It was very dated with an old metal handle and veneer scratches and chips. We debated for a while whether to get it and do some restoration.
The inside was in very good shape, so we decided we decided to give it a try and restore and retrorefit to be up to speed with the rebirth of vinyl. We are good at restoring wood and finishes, but the old metal handle was something that just wasn’t…cool enough. So, we decided it ouldn’t stay in the transformation. After a while, we settled on something that was closer to the Lane wooden handle look, closer to the wooden handle made for the end table. The veneer was walnut, so I picked a small piece of walnut from the wood pile and went to work. Here’s some before and after…

Looks GREAT !!!!! Nice piece!
